The kennels based on the edge of the Gower peninsula are run as a hobby by Gareth and partner Leanne. They only have a small quantity of dogs and breed the occasional litter ensuring the best standards are produced. All of their stock are health tested.
Gareth’s interest in spaniels began whilst rough shooting and beating with his older brother Jonathan with whom he represented Wales in clay pigeon shooting. After he left home and purchased his first spaniel off Alan Gwynne, the dogs soon took over as the main interest and with the help of Cyril and Mary Gwynne he competed in his first field trial in November 2003 with DearnvalleyVenus. From here on the Heolybwlch line was formed.
Gareth is an active Kennel Club A Panel spaniel judge. He has judged Finland’sNational Championship and also had the privilege to shoot in the British Cocker Championship 2015 and the British AV Spaniel Championship 2017.
The Heolybwlch line has produced number of field trial winners and field trial champions including the double championship winner Heolybwlch Fatty. In 2018 Gareth came 2nd in the British Cocker Spaniel Championships with Heolybwlch Denman making him the highest placed dog in the competition.
Leanne’s interest in gundogs stared whilst training spaniels and Labradors with father Stephen Gardner. After her father’s passing in 2010 Leanne decided to continue to run the dog he had trained, this is where she met Gareth. Leanne has her own prefix of Sedgeberrow.
